Missoula In Motion

Missoula in Motion (MIM) addresses the issue of community transportation.

MIM provides a way to save money, improve air quality, reduce traffic, and increase the overall quality of life in Missoula. MIM promotes carpooling, biking, walking, transit, vanpooling, telecommuting, and compressed work weeks as a way to increase health and wellness in Missoula. Transportation is directly linked with a variety of issues confronting the Missoula area including growth, land-use, development, health and environmental concerns. Missoula In Motion (MIM) aims to better connect organizations and issues related to transportation planning, health and air quality improvements
Missoula in Motion’s Way to Go! Club (WTG!C) is a community-wide incentives program to encourage people to bike, walk, bus, carpool, or vanpool to work or school at least once a week. The WTG!C has received national and international attention and is considered a model program. The tremendous interest in The WTG!C is a favorable affirmation of our message: Missoula residents can reduce greenhouse gases, minimize traffic congestion, and improve personal health and fitness by using preferred transportation modes.

Joining the WTG!C is free. Once an individual joins they can log onto the website to track their commutes. Members who report commutes are entered into a monthly raffle. Members also receive a quarterly newsletter which post special events for WTG!C members. MIM and the WTG!C recognize that members may fall ill or have an emergency on a commute day. Therefore, WTG!C offers Guaranteed Ride Home. Guaranteed Ride Home provides a free ride for WTG!C members via taxi four times a year. MIM also hosts a variety of events to enhance current partnerships and forge new ones, to discuss emerging transportation challenges, identify new opportunities and provide on-going innovative programs and services. Listed below are the events hosted by MIM.
Momentum Breakfast is a monthly event for Missoula area businesses/organizations during which we educate our members on key transportation events and issues, attended by an average of 15-20 local business representatives.

Best Practices Awards is an annual awards ceremony recognizing Missoula area employers who demonstrate exemplary efforts to help our community address transportation related air quality, health, and parking challenges by encouraging their employees to use preferred transportation options.
ANNUAL COMMUTER CHALLENGE is the third full week in April. Businesses participate in the Commuter Challenge to get involved in the fun of Bike-Walk-Bus Week and to support employee participation in Missoula’s annual celebration of healthy transportation.
