Profile of the Week: Healthy Neighborhood Project

The Healthy By Design Coalition is a community health coalition working to make the healthy choice, the easy choice in Yellowstone County. Through an implementation grant from the Kresge Foundation, the Healthy Neighborhood Project team, in direct collaboration with a resident steering committee, is working toward the implementation of the Healthy Neighborhood Plan for the South Side neighborhood in Billings. Current projects include exploring a community grocery store, supporting community gardening, and facilitating resident-driven community art and creative placemaking efforts that celebrate the Bright Side of the Tracks theme.

This is an ongoing project involving many community partners and resident input, which is the key factor to its success thus far. Several community residents hired for various projects and activities throughout the course provided direct community influence. The Billings Gazette featured an article on the Healthy Neighborhood Project in January 2019. Read it here!
