Toole County Health Department is partnering with several community organizations to host a Wellness Fair during Parent-Teacher Conferences at the Shelby Elementary School. This is one small part of the Toole County Community Health Improvement Plan in which their goal is to improve the overall health and health literacy of Toole County residents. The target audience for this fair is parents of school aged children and their teachers, keeping in mind that students may be present. The purpose is to educate and bring awareness to local resources including mental and behavioral health providers, clinic and hospital services, as well as other community resources and activities. Information will be available from vendors regarding safe routes to school, biking and walking safety, medication drop box locations in Shelby and safe medication handling techniques, tobacco cessation and awareness, sugar in drinks, adolescent nutrition, improving adolescent sleep and more.
This is the first year for this event and they have had a lot of interest and are excited to see what opportunities are unveiled. They hope to make this an annual event as well as plan to expand this program into the North Toole County Schools in the next year.
Partnering organizations include The City of Shelby, Toole County Sheriff’s Department, Marias Medical Center, Marias Healthcare, Shelby School Systems and ReACT, Toole County MSU Extension Services, Youth Dynamics, Gateway Recovery, Toole County Health Department, and MSU College of Nursing-Great Falls.
