The Spirit of Service is an annual “Spring Cleaning” event promoted by local businesses and organizations. On May 18th, 2017 (with a rain day on May 22, 2017), program volunteers spent the entire day helping homeowners by performing yard work and minor maintenance to the exteriors of their homes. The service was provided to homeowners unable to do the work themselves. Homes were located within the communities of Helena, East Helena and the Valley. Priority was given to homes that have not been helped within the last three years. The service was free of charge to homeowners and there were no income guidelines. The organizations involved provided the tools, labor and materials required to do the work. The work the volunteers performed was typical spring cleaning chores such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, raking, trash removal, window washing, cleaning of rain gutters and some painting.
