Red Lodge Area Food Partnership Council

The Red Lodge Area Food Partnership Council’s mission is to vigorously promote a sustainable, local food system that encourages a better quality of life for our citizens, improves the community’s economy and self-reliance, and preserves the land for generations to come.

The Red Lodge Area Food Partnership Council has formed the following task force groups to further their commitment to promoting local food:

CONNECTING PRODUCERS AND CONSUMERS:

Their producers and consumers task force works to make local produce and meat more available and with greater variety. This means more producers raising products and more outlets for consumers.

SCHOOLS: MEALS AND EDUCATION:

The Food Partnership Council is involved with the wellness groups in area schools. Their goals include: making healthy, local food available in the schools, offering fresh fruits & vegetables as a part of the regular menu, and promoting education on nutrition and sustainability.  They have applied for and have engaged a Montana Foodcorps member that is focused on implementing a farm to school program in the Red Lodge school system.

GARDENING:

Their gardening contingent encourages and teaches people how to grow, cook, eat, and preserve their own produce. They are also involved in providing community gardens for area residents.

COMPOSTING AND IMPROVING THE SOIL:

Plants need good soil to produce their best results. Amending soil with organic matter and compost improves drainage and aeration.

ADULT EDUCATION: FOOD, NUTRITION AND PREPARATION:

The Red Lodge Area Food Partnership Council educates residents to believe that they have the power to make food choices that support their community, enhance their health, and improve the sustainability of our environment.

FOOD RELATED EVENTS:

The Farmers Market, plus various other food related events, will take place in the community this year.
